Email List for Musicians: How to Start One and What to Send
Reach your fans without a feed in between: how to start an email list for musicians, where to put the sign-up, what to send and which tools include one.

On this page
An email list is a list of fans who gave you their email so you can write to them. No feed decides which of them gets your message, and if you change tools, you can take the list with you. Start with a sign-up on your link in bio, your website and your release pages, write when you have a release or a show, and keep each email short.
Why have an email list if you have followers?
On social apps, a feed decides what each follower sees. An email goes to the inbox of the person who signed up. And the list is a file you can export: if you leave a platform, your followers stay there, your list comes with you.
It also lets you choose who you write to. With a city next to each email, you can tell only the fans in Bogotá about your Bogotá show, instead of everyone. More on that in what to email your fans before a show.
Where should the sign-up go?
1. On your link in bio
It's the page people open from Instagram and TikTok. Here's what else goes there.
2. On every release page
"Get notified when it's out" before release day, and an invitation to hear the next one after.
3. On your website
A visible spot, not only the footer.
4. At your shows
A QR code on a poster, on merch or on the screen that opens your sign-up.
What should you ask for?
Email, and the city where they live if your tool supports it. Every extra field is one more thing to fill in, so add a name or a birthday only if you'll use it.
What should you send?
- Release day: one sentence about the song and one link.
- A pre-save, before a release: the date and the pre-save link.
- A show: city, date, venue and a Tickets link, to fans in that city.
- A new video: one line and the link.
- A real note, now and then: what you're working on, in your own words.
Write like you talk. One email, one thing to do. If you have nothing new, you don't have to send anything.

How does Loud's fan list work?
We make Loud. Loud builds your website and link in bio from your music, and both have a fan sign-up: email, city and permission to email them. You can also ask for a name, WhatsApp, country or birthday. The same sign-up is on each release page. On your Loud Home page there's a QR code of your site and link in bio for posters and shows.
In the Fans page you see everyone who signed up, filter by city and export a CSV whenever you want. You can also import a CSV of fans you already have, if they gave you permission to email them, such as the contacts you export from Linktree (how to switch from Linktree).
In Emails, you start with a goal: announce a release, get pre-saves, sell tickets for a show, announce your tour, share a video or just say hi. Then you pick the song or video, a design and your words, and send it to everyone or to one city. Replies go to your own email, every email has a one-tap unsubscribe link, and you can send a test to yourself first. Fan emails come with Tour: 5,000 a month. The fan sign-up and emails turn on once you confirm the page is yours.
Where Loud loses: it has no automations and no scheduled sends. An email starts going out when you click send (with a big list, it can take a few days to reach everyone), and the reports are simple: delivered and opened. If email is your main channel, a dedicated email tool may suit you better, and you can export your list from Loud. And if you want a full site with a bigger email tool, compare Loud vs Bandzoogle.
